Project Background:
Klang Special School started with a class of 7 children and a teacher in 1967. It was in 1985 APEX Club of Klang came forward to undertake the contruction of a permanent school for the mentally handicapped children on a 3.2 acres site in Klang town, a kilometre away from the town center.
Over the years the school has grown steadily and currently there are 17 teachers who serves about 148 children in following programmes:
a.) Early Intervention Programme (E.I.P) - 0 to 5 years
b.) School Programme - 6 to 17 years
c.) Vacational Class - 18 years and above
Volunteer's task mainly evolved around helping teacher in the classroom, minor physical works like maintaining the garden, wall mural painting and interaction with parent and local people.
Aims:
a) Improve the situation of the school and children
b) Develop friendship, understanding and solidarity among participants and the local people
c) Promote social awareness on special children to the volunteer and public
Preparing gardening plot for the school children - notice Kyungsup's traditional Korean hat!
